How INSPACe Commes


ISRO welcomed the opening up of private firm contributions to the space sector and would boost the country's space industrial revolution and scratch to space-based services, said Dr. K Sivan, chairmen, ISRO.


Announcements from the Union Cabinet had told on Thursday that the setting up a new a of the space organisation- Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe) that handle and operate independently for evaluated and approved space base activities in the country.


IN-SPACe would be an independent body. The decision of IN-SPACe will be binding on all stakeholders, including ISRO,” said Sivan. 


“The government has approved the establishment of an autonomous nodal agency IN-SPACe under the Department of Space (DoS) for taking independent decisions on permitting and regulating the activities of private companies in the space sector. 


ISRO's technology and research will share the technical expertise and facilities for encouraging the private sector in space. 


The board of IN-SPACe will also have appreciations from the various industries, academia, the Central government and R&D Centers around the country.


Earlier, Dr. Sivan said, “We will process their requirements. The Private companies have approached us for using ISRO facilities. We are processing their requests on a fast-track mode.


IN-SPACe may take up to six months to become operational and until then, private entities can apply through the Bengaluru-based DoS. 


Whats ISRO Achieve

ISRO has one rocket launch centre at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra 

Pradesh, which is also likely to be used by the private sector. 


The Private companies through IN-SPACe would be accomplished to build facilities within the DoS premises as per the need and reliability.


The private sector also is allowed to provide every space services, including building and launching of rockets and satellites.


The various experts and scientists have been demanding that the private sector contribute to the country’s routine space activities.  such as the launch of existing communication and earth observation satellites, which will free up resources for critical scientific explorations.


Nowadays, Every launch vehicle and satellite is designed by ISRO scientists and private players manufacture their components. 


Dr. K Sivan pointed out the need to introduce reforms in policies and the improvement of outdated ones in a bid to make the system more efficient and more reliable.


Government Support the Privatisation


Since 2019, the government has set up an industry consortium to expedite the production of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), an expendable medium-lift launch vehicle designed and operated by ISRO.


The role of the New Space India Limited (NSIL)- The commercial arm of ISRO that was set up last year. It would undertake the transfer of technology (ToT) activities with various industrial partners and organisations.


It would also be modified to acquire existing launch vehicles and satellite technologies and make them commercially viable through industry associations.


ISRO's scientific space achievements have been gathering momentum such as another lander-rover mission to the moon, human spaceflight programme, solar mission Aditya L1, and a mission to Venus in the next few years.
