ISRO NEW COMMERCIAL ARM NewSpace India Limited Current Affairs 2021.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) was officially inaugurated in Bengaluru by the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) as new commercial arm.
ABOUT NEWSPACE INDIA LIMITED (NSIL)
The Department of Space (DoS) registered its second commercial entity called NSIL in ISRO On 6 March 2019.
The Antrix was set up in September 1992 to market products and services of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and first commercial venture of DoS was Antrix Corporation Limited.
Research and development (R&D) activities carried out by ISRO in area of space was incorporated for commercially utilising with the help of NSIL.
An authorised share capital by government of India (GOI) of Rs 100 crore and starting paid up capital of Rs 10 crore.
NSIL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY
- This will act as an aggregator for all space activities in industry with ISRO.
- They will also building concrete private entrepreneurship in space related technologies and startup.
- This will be responsible for production and manufacturing of commercially successful Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV).
- Also incorporate with Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) spacecraft launchers via technology transfer mechanisms.

Why in news?
NSIL has been incorporated as a fully owned GoI Undertaking or Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) as like BPCL, IOCL(In Oil Industry).
An Antrix Corporation Ltd is another PSU under the Department of Space(DoS) that acts as an commercial arm of the ISRO same as NSIL.
It Actually working under the administrative control of Department of Space (DOS).
It's primary goals to commercially exploit the research and development (R&D) work of ISRO Centres and collaborative units of DOS.
NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) would boost Indian Industries to grown up high-technology and innovation with manufacturing and production base for meeting the growing needs of Indian space programme.
They also be further spur the scale of Indian Industries in the space sector for sustainable time.
Functions of NSIL:
- Manufacturing, Development and marketing of Space based products, services, including launch of satellites and application.
- With the global rich of experience start's marketing spin-off technologies and services, both in India and abroad through chieper cost.
- Small Scale Satellite through technology transfer(TT) to industry, wherein NSIL will obtain license from DOS/ISRO and sub-license it to industries.
- Manufacturing & Development of Small Scale Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) in collaboration with Private Sector to building proper hold on technology rich.
- Most private players grown with Transfer of technology (TT) developed by ISRO Centres and constituent units of DOS.
- Manufacturing & Production of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and May be Geo Synchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV) through Indian Industry.
